 WHY MUSICXML

The format every notation app speaks.

MIDI stores performance. MusicXML stores notation. If you want a score that looks right when you open it in Finale or Sibelius, MusicXML is what you want.

Finale

Open directly. Re-flow, edit, print.

Sibelius

Drag the file straight into Sibelius. Done.

Dorico

Import flow. Re-cast for any ensemble.

MuseScore

Free notation. ScoreFlip's XML is fully MuseScore 4 compatible.

 QUESTIONS

About audio-to-MusicXML

Will the MusicXML open in Finale and Sibelius?

Yes. ScoreFlip outputs MusicXML 4.0, which is fully supported by Finale, Sibelius, Dorico, MuseScore, Notion, Encore, NotateMe, and every other notation app we've tested. Compressed .mxl format is also available for smaller file sizes.

What's the difference between MusicXML and MIDI?

MIDI stores performance data — which notes, when, how loud, on which channel. MusicXML stores notation data — what the score should look like on the page, including beams, ties, articulations, lyrics, key signatures, dynamics, and rehearsal marks. Use MIDI for your DAW, MusicXML for your notation app.

Does it figure out the key and time signature?

Yes. ScoreFlip infers key signature, time signature, and tempo from the audio. The result is reviewable — you can override any of them before downloading.

Can it handle two staves (treble + bass)?

Yes for piano recordings. ScoreFlip splits the transcription into treble and bass clef automatically, with a configurable split point. For ensemble recordings, the audio model assigns notes to instruments.

What about lyrics?

If your recording has clearly sung vocals, ScoreFlip can also extract lyrics and align them to the notes — available as an option in the Pro tier.
